Project Compassion Ministries, Inc. Receives $10,200 Grant for
PCM God’s Love Bus Transportation Program
Project Compassion Ministries, Inc., the only provider of transportation for wheelchair bound seniors in Southeastern Michigan received a $10,200 grant on June 1, 2017. The grant was endowed by Mary Thompson Foundation, St. Clair Shores, Michigan for the purpose of funding transportation services to underserved seniors in nursing homes and senior living facilities in Detroit Michigan.
The goal of the project is to provide transportation services with six (6) scheduled God’s Love Bus Trips to those underserved seniors in Detroit Michigan at the targeted group of four (4) nursing homes, assisted and independently living and senior apartments. The funds will be allocated to the bus service department .The project will be headed by Calvin Stewart, Bus Supervisor, who has been with Project Compassion for over 25 years. Ten Nursing Homes and Senior Living Facilities will be interviewed with four awarded to participate in the program.
This program offers decision making options and accommodates the special needs of nursing home residents in addressing quality of life issues. Feelings of loss of control and isolation are diminished thereby increasing residents’ well-being. Trips out of the facility are ranked as one of the foremost concerns of nursing home residents pertaining to their personal autonomy. PCM will utilize its specialized wheel chair accessible God’s Love Buses to transport residents to and from the outings with year round and seasonal event venues.
The events will be planned and financed by the senior living facility. The bus trip will be of no cost to them within 100 miles. Our program will strengthen and build our customer base as well and increase satisfaction.
