PCM Receives a Grant Gift of $10,000 from Shepherd’s Gate Church

November 28th, 2017 Posted by Uncategorized No Comment yet

Project Compassion Ministries received a grant gift of $10,000 from Shepherd’s Gate Church, Shelby Township, Michigan on November 9, 2017.  The gift reflects a continuing reputation for supporting the efforts of those of us committed to improving the lives of our Lord’s senior children.

Project Compassion Ministries’ grant program will extend our Chaplaincy and God’s Love Bus Program to the underserved areas of Detroit and surrounding areas and promote a stronger sense of well-being, self-worth and life satisfaction among the elderly and individuals with disabilities.  The program will focus on reengaging the faith community to fully support the work of PCM and aging enrichment network development with congregations through technology, volunteers and continued relevant chaplaincy services.

The program is designed to benefit seniors improving their quality of life.  Once new ministries are developed at churches, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, it is hoped these facilities will budget funding to provide this unique ministry as an essential contributor to the interrelated body, mind and soul of a holistic church/nursing home team and their residents.

Project Compassion Ministries remains dependent upon the heartfelt giving of individuals and generous donations of churches, organizations and schools.

Announcement from Dr. Ingrid Draper, Board Chair

Announcement from
Dr. Ingrid Draper, Board Chair
Project Compassion Ministries
Dear Friends of Project Compassion,
Recently, the Board of Directors of Project Compassion Ministries took action designed to reposition and strengthen our ministry for the future. While change can be difficult, the Board is excited to lead the organization boldly forward so that our good work will continue to have impact for many years to come.
Specifically, Project Compassion Ministries has entered into a strategic alliance with Wellspring Lutheran Services. This alliance provides for Wellspring to provide strategic guidance and support, as well providing a part time Executive Director – Ms. Bridgette Boyd. Bridgette began this new role on July 24th. David Gehm, President and CEO of Wellspring, will work closely with Bridgette and the Board of Directors to assure strong support is provided.
Regrettably, this decision caused the Board to end its relationship with Eric Stenson, who will finish his official duties as Executive Director on August 7. No other staff changes are being contemplated at this time.
This strategic alliance with Wellspring will allow us to pursue important new initiatives, which include:
– Exploration of opportunities to reposition and ultimately expand our transportation services to the seniors of Detroit.
– Renewed and refocused relationships with congregations and other stakeholder groups with a focus on engagement and expanding volunteer opportunities.
– Important new collaborations and relationships within the City, enabling us to identify new partners and new opportunities for service.
Please pray for Project Compassion Ministries and all people affected by this important decision. The Board will provide updates as needed in the weeks and months ahead. If you have specific questions or comments, please contact me at or Bridgette Boyd at
God Bless.

Block Party Volunteer Information Sheet

July 20th, 2017 Posted by Uncategorized No Comment yet

Project Compassion has been sponsoring the Summer Block Parties since 1974.  Some residents have lived in the nursing homes since that time and even before.  Others will be new in their “homes” and unfamiliar with the Block Party.  You will find people with greatly varying personalities – some very quiet and reserved and some outgoing.  Also some that may be a bit confused.  Try to be accepting of all types as an expression of Christ’s love for them.

This Block Party provides a bright spot in lives that otherwise are fairly uneventful.  You have a unique opportunity to bring joy and blessing to some special people.  You will be a channel of God’s blessing through word, song and action today.  His love is poured into you through His Holy Spirit and will be remembered by those you will be serving.

“Stand firm then, my dear fellow Christians, and let nothing move you.  Always keep on doing great work for the Lord since you know in the Lord your hard work isn’t wasted.”  (1 Cor. 15:58)

  • Food will be delivered to your area by van.
  • Have a member of the volunteer team report to the Activities Director or person in charge regarding any additional information about their home.
  • Residents outside – if volunteer is unsure of helping resident, please ask assistance of nursing staff.
  • Residents inside nursing home – if unsure of helping the resident with food, please leave food at bedside (a staff member will help resident when they are able).
  • Please do not take food into homes marked AFC.  Work only with the residents that are outside.
  • There should be a trash container at each facility – please encourage residents to use it.
  • Volunteers will assist with the clean up.  Make sure all styrofoam containers are returned to the curbside.
  • If the residents hesitate to accept food because of diet restrictions, assure them that the menu has been approved by the dietician.
  • All food can be served to all residents, one serving each.  If there is extra food, only residents okayed by the nursing staff may be served more than one of anything.

Plan to spend about 20 minutes at each entertainment spot, as assigned.  Please do not enter facilities.

Volunteers and entertainers will meet at 3:15 p.m. back at Illinois Avenue Lutheran Church for a time of sharing and socializing.

On behalf of all the resident of these homes and the Block Party Committee, thank you for your “hard work”.  It is our prayer that you will “always keep on doing a great work for the Lord” by remembering those in need with your prayers and your loving concern.

PCM is proud to announce the winner of our God’s Love Bus Promotion.  PCM offered a free God’s Love Bus Trip to a senior living facility.  Entrants were required to write a creative, compelling summary of where they would like to go and how it would benefit their residents.  There were so many great entries that it was difficult to choose a winner.

The God’s Love Bus outing winner is:

Congratulations to Hope Healthcare Center.  Thank you to all who participated in our promotion and supported Project Compassion Ministries.

“Savior of the Nations, Come”

From the manger newborn light

Sends a glory through the night

Night cannot this light subdue

   Faith keep springing ever new.
