44th Annual Block Party Details

Greetings in Christ Jesus!

It is time for Project Compassion Ministries 44th Annual Block Party on Saturday, August 5th bringing the Love of Christ to residents in over eight nursing homes on East Grand Boulevard in Detroit. The Block Party gives nursing home residents the chance to gather on the lawns outside of their homes and to socialize with our volunteers, (both young and old) from Detroit and neighboring communities.  They come together for one purpose: to bring the Love, Compassion and Joy of our Lord to His eldest children!

This year we are striving to ensure participation of our donors, churches and social organizations in our block party.  Most nursing home residents do not have regular visitors and greatly enjoy the conversations, the attention, the prayers, the games, the songs and (most of all) YOUR presence.  We are currently in need of entertainers: singers, musicians, dancers, clowns, magicians — you name it!

Please pray about what you can provide on this special day. Join the other volunteers for a continental breakfast, orientation for the day’s visits, and team assignments, at 12:00 p.m. at Iroquois Avenue Lutheran Church, located at 2411 Iroquois Avenue, Historic Indian Village, Detroit 48214.

Just before 1:00 p.m., volunteers will be transported to the nursing home visitation starting point by a PCM “God’s Love Bus.” Volunteers may also choose to drive their cars to the starting points. The party will conclude by 3:00 pm.  Volunteers are encouraged to gather back at the church around 3:15 pm for a time of sharing and socializing.

If you are not able to join us at the Block Party, please prayerfully consider one of the following sponsorship opportunities.

PCM God’s Love Bus Transportation Program

June 28th, 2017 Posted by God's Love Bus, Project Compassion Ministries No Comment yet

Project Compassion Ministries, Inc. Receives $10,200 Grant for

PCM God’s Love Bus Transportation Program

Project Compassion Ministries, Inc., the only provider of transportation for wheelchair bound seniors in Southeastern Michigan received a $10,200 grant on June 1, 2017.  The grant was endowed by Mary Thompson Foundation, St. Clair Shores, Michigan for the purpose of funding transportation services to underserved seniors in nursing homes and senior living facilities in Detroit Michigan.

The goal of the project is to provide transportation services with six (6) scheduled God’s Love Bus Trips to those underserved seniors in Detroit Michigan at the targeted group of four (4) nursing homes, assisted and independently living and senior apartments.  The funds will be allocated to the bus service department .The project will be headed by Calvin Stewart, Bus Supervisor, who has been with Project Compassion for over 25 years.  Ten Nursing Homes and Senior Living Facilities will be interviewed with four awarded to participate in the program.

This program offers decision making options and accommodates the special needs of nursing home residents in addressing quality of life issues.  Feelings of loss of control and isolation are diminished thereby increasing residents’ well-being.  Trips out of the facility are ranked as one of the foremost concerns of nursing home residents pertaining to their personal autonomy.  PCM will utilize its specialized wheel chair accessible God’s Love Buses to transport residents to and from the outings with year round and seasonal event venues.

The events will be planned and financed by the senior living facility.  The bus trip will be of no cost to them within 100 miles.  Our program will strengthen and build our customer base as well and increase satisfaction.
